You have most likely heard of Cuba before, the largest island in the Caribbean, having a reputation of stunning beaches. Though that is true, there is more to the island.
Cuba was where Christopher Columbus first arrived on his voyage to 'India'. It was conquered and became very much dependent on sugar and tobacco plantations, having a massive population of slaves. In 1895 Cuba fought for it's independence in the Cuban War of Independence, and finally got it in 1898. Now it is dependent on tourism and mining, and is also known for it's strong coffee.
Cuba is made up of 15 different provinces, with 4000 islands in total. These islands are split into 4 main groups; the Colorados, the Sabana-Camaguey, the Jardines de la Reina, and the Canarrenos. The largest of the islands besides the Cuba island is Isla de Juventud which translates to 'Island of Youth'. The capital of Cuba is Havanna. Cuba's longest river is Rio Cauto which stretches 213 miles long. Cuba is also home to the world's smallest bird, the Zunzuncito, or the bee humming bird. Females are 2.6g and 6.1cm long, while males are 1.95g and 5.5cm long.
Cuban culture is full of music, having the tango guitar type of sound. The island has a stable education system with 47 universities, 16 of them being medical universities. Spanish is also it's national language.
So that is how I dug a little bit deeper in my knowledge of Cuba, I hope it also improved your knowledge too.
